When should I first start taking my child to the dentist?

There are many benefits to your dentist building a relationship with your children at a young age

It’s important to build a dentist-child relationship from a young age as this creates the foundations for oral care later in life. Regular visits to the dentist also creates a sense of familiarity which ensures that your children do not develop dental phobia – or fear of the dentist.

Many parents come to us concerned with when is the correct time to first take their children to the dentist. While it can vary child to child, it is recommended that you come and see us once the first few primary (or ‘milk’) teeth have breached the gum. This will usually be at approximately age 3, and then regular (twice a year) dental check-ups are recommended from the age of 6 or 7.
