Allsmiles Dental Centre is passionate about family and children’s dentistry. We treat children on a daily basis and we can tell you that some of them are easier to treat than our adults! We also know that trying to enforce or construct an oral health regime for your child can be extremely difficult and challenging for most new parents.
When should I start cleaning my baby’s teeth?
You can start using a child’s toothpaste at age 3. Children’s toothpaste is normally made out of a gentler formula and may not contain any fluoride. It’s suggested that you start bringing your child with you when you brush your teeth from the age of 2 as this will teach them the correct pattern for optimum oral health. It will also be much easier on you when you’re trying to coax them to brush their teeth every night and morning.
Do I need to fix a cavity in a baby tooth if it’s just going to fall out?
YES! Yes, it is extremely important that you get all cavities filled in, even if it’s a baby tooth. Caring for your child’s baby teeth ensures that their adult teeth grow through without any complications. Leaving a cavity can also result in periodontitis as well as lots of long-term pain as lots of baby teeth can last until your child is 13 or 14.
When should I first take my child to the dentist?
You should bring your child to see us at allsmiles Dental Centre located in Mermaid Waters when they get their first baby tooth. As this is when caring for oral health starts it’s important to begin the habit of caring for their teeth. Bringing them in at a young age also ensures that a positive dentist-child relationship is forged which reduces the risk of dental phobia when they’re older.
